Since 1997 the Skate Canada BC/YT Section Athlete Support Fund (ASF) has provided crucial financial assistance to skaters across our Section. From subsidizing competition costs to offering scholastic bursaries and covering banquet fees for Kelowna Camp participants, the ASF helps athletes achieve their goals. Over the past 28 years, more than $100,000 has been awarded to athletes. Thanks to generous donations and successful fundraising efforts like 50/50 raffles and rose sales, the Athlete Support Fund remains committed to supporting the educational and athletic goals of skaters across the province.

Athlete Support Fund Bursaries
The Athlete Support Fund is proud to assist skaters who have been or are currently on the BC/YT Team, or have achieved at least 3 of the 4 Gold Test Assessments, and are furthering their post-secondary education. Each year, the Athlete Support Fund Committee reviews applications, evaluating submission quality, skating achievements, academic performance, and community involvement. Bursary amounts vary annually based on available funds, the number of applicants, and the caliber of applications received.
All of the applications will be reviewed by the Athlete Support Committee, looking at the quality of your application, your level of skating, marks and volunteer involvement. The Bursary amounts each year are dependent upon the number of athletes applying, the funds available, and the quality of the applications.
Tips for completing the application:
- Ensure that all components of the application form are completed in full with accurate information. Applications with missing information will not be scored as high as applications with complete and accurate information.
- Submit supporting documents in full (e.g.: proof of registration in a post-secondary institution, transcripts).
- Provide clear examples that support your application. For example, providing clarity on volunteer activities, including the organization(s) you volunteer with, type of volunteer activities, how long you have volunteered, and how frequently.
- Information about awards or recognition that you have received also help to enhance the application.
- Provide fulsome information about your education plans. The committee appreciates that plans can change, but it is helpful to understand your current plans and any education and career paths you are considering in the future.
